Travelling from Canada

I got my US passport and am flying to Canada next week. I am just curious as to whether the US immigration will stamp my passport at the airport on my way back to US. My Indian passport was always stamped by the US Immigration. Wondering if that process changes for US citizens.

No, they may choose not to stamp your passport as it is not required by rules. In fact even for GC holders it is not mandatory for them to do so (as told to me last time I entered US on GC). I had to specifically ask the officer to stamp so I may have a record.

Totally random. My US passport has a 50% chance of being stamped upon return. However it has never been stamped at Pearson airport yet. It is more likely to be stamped when I fly back to O'Hare from Europe or Asia.

Wondering if that process changes for US citizens.
