Hello everyone,
I urgently need some guidance and would greatly appreciate any input.
My wife and I went through the full K-1 visa process, which was a long journey like many others experience. While her I-485 was pending, she was placed in EOIR proceedings. At her second court appearance, the immigration judge granted her adjustment of status.
After about 45 days, we contacted USCIS to inform them that her status had been granted by the immigration judge and that she is now a lawful permanent resident. USCIS scheduled us for an appointment at the local office, where she received an ADIT (I-551) stamp in her passport.
We were told that the ADIT stamp allows her to travel and re-enter the United States as proof of permanent residency. Based on that, I purchased tickets so we could finally meet her parents after more than two years apart.
My concern now is about transiting through Zurich Airport. Our connecting flight is through Switzerland on the way to our final destination.
I have checked official sources, and this is where my confusion comes in:
• The German government website specifically states that a temporary I-551 (ADIT) stamp is accepted for transit purposes.
• The Swiss website, however, only says that U.S. lawful permanent residents do not require an airport transit visa — but it does not specifically mention whether the ADIT stamp itself is accepted as proof.
Has anyone transited through Zurich with an ADIT (I-551) stamp instead of the physical green card? Did you have any issues at check-in or transit?
Any experience or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.
