Traveling to Philippines with expired Conditional GCi

My husbands cconditional green card will be expired when he moves to philippines and we know that he will not be able to enter in the US, BUT will he be in trouble if he traveled out of the US with expired GC? Any info anyone?
 
Is there a reason why they ask for his green card cause he had been traveling before and he was asked for green card
