Traveling on AP - several trips

My AP is approved and valid until Oct. 05, and am in the process of applying for extension.

I have 3 Parole papers that CIS sent, that all look the same.

I am planning to go to Canada next week, to India in August and to Mexico in September.

What do the immigration officers take when I return back to US? Do I have to surrender these 3 copies, when I return back? If I do, how do I travel the next time?

What do I need to show the officers when I return back to the US?

Please Let me know. Thanks.

First time, give all copies - I think they keep 1, stamp 1 and return it to you. so you'll have 2.

For the subsequent trips show only the stamped AP - -they'll stamp again on the same AP.

Hi, I only have 2 APs from CSC and I am traveling on June 15. Should I bring them together? Do I have to show anything when I leave the country? When I come back, should I show them my I-485 receipt, and my current H1B approval notice? Please help. Thanks.

Hi hope_Nov,
I just got back from My India Trip, You donot have to show AP While leaving US,
But They will ask when you Come back at POE. I Think AP Is enough to reenter US. But to be on safe side keep all receipts handy.

Its OK if you got only 2 copies .... CSC normally sends 3 - maybe they changed something recently.

You don't need to do anything special when leaving ... just hand over your old I-94.
When you re-enter present both copies of AP and passport -- don't present any other docs. (you don't need anything else to re-enter)
Don't show H1 approval -- it confuses more than it helps.

Thanks a lot, guys. I have another question. You said I should turn in my I-94 when I leave. My I-94 which I got from my last entry expired already. I renewed my H1B early this year. Should I bring the I-94 from the H1B approval notice. Thanks.

Staple together the original (white card) I-94 & the I-94 that came with the H1 approval. Give them both when you depart.

Keep copies of it for your future reference.

Ap

If you have a valid approved H1b stamped in your passport, then it is much faster to enter using the H1B (minutes). People who enter on AP are those that do not have any valid visa (like me). They are taken to a separate room and interviewed (simple questions- no big deal). Their ID is verified and their files are pulled up in the computer system. This has taken from 30' to 2 hours depending upon the workload of the immigration officer. At one time I almost missed my connecting flight.

Secondary inspection does not happen in all the airports, btw.
For example, in LAX, there is a separate "Q" for AP holders and they just check your details on the computer right in front of you -- you are processed and out in less than 2 mins (obviously the wait time in Q is there).

In any case, its wise to keep atleast 4 to 5 hrs for your connecting flights.
