Trueman,

My husband has had two experiences traveling on Advance Parole. The first was in Dec. 2001 and the second in Dec. 2002.

Both times, he had to go through immigration at JFK International Airport.

After passing the initial immigration checkpoint where he presented his passport, and I-94, he had to go to a separate office where immigration officers stood behind a counter and called up people one at a time.

When he was caled, he presented his AP papers, passport, EAD to the immigration officer behind the counter. THey looked up his case on the computer, entered somethings in to the computer, and gave the advance parole back to him. I don't remember any more specifics but in all it took about 20 minutes.

Now, the first time in Dec. 2001 he traveled on AP, he was asked by the immigration officer in the separate office to present his EAD as well. He did not have it on him and did not think to have it on him. I honestly don't know what would've happened if I wasn't there to speak up for him. I have posted this experience on a previous thread where you can read about it. The second time was less harrowing.

Both times, the AP were good for travel for 1 year.

Good luck
Kiska
Long timeline
God knows when our 1-485 is approved :( :(

AP Travel from NBC2003

I have travelled with AP in Feb 2004 for six weeks. My husband and kids were with me at the houston International airport.
I did not have my EAd with me as I had not received it by then.

My H-1 also had expired last yar.

But I had no trouble. I joined my US citizen husband and kids in the US citizen line itself for the immigration check point. He looked at my AP and passport. asked a few unrelated questions about the children and nothing about the AP. He stamped the passport , gave a me a new I-94 with "paroled in" written on it and an expiry date of one year as well.

I was a little concerned earlier about travelling with AP but it was very simple. I carried so much documentation with me like my H-1s and receipts of the I-485 etc but he did not bother to ask for anything.

NBC2003,

Could you please tell us, you had to face immigration check point with officer both way, I mean whenever you are leaving USA and entering in the USA? And you had to show your AP both time? I appreciate your comments.

Thanks!
