energizer,
Thanks for taking the time to post this encouraging news to the forum members. Eventhough I am still long way to go from getting a green card, the info that you posted helps to resolve many confusion that asylees have experienced especially for those who have become a green card holders.
Now we have one less thing to worry about.
But I do have some questions. How do some people still managed to keep thier national passport valid after many years of waiting for the green card application to be approved?
Do you actually renew your national passport while you are waiting for adjustment status? Should we renew our national passport once it is going to expired? Please clarify.

Hello Cchong..my national passport actually expired, but I am planning on renewing it by mail. Although I am not an immigration expert, I would recomment that you do NOT renew your passport while you are waiting for adjustment of status. I believe this could jepordize your asylee status. I think it is OK to renew after being adjusted.
I agree. However, think of the current situation after 9/11. The whole immigration system was revamped and every immigrant became fair game to the officials at the INS. It will feel as if you are walking on egg shells with them so you have to second guess them and make sure you do not give them a chance to destroy your dream of becoming a US citizen. Just read the recent news about the 300 workers arrested in WalMart yesterday. They were arrested because they did not have proper work authorizations and the INS never took such public action before. They did it before but not with such huge scale and high publicity. It seems that the INS is under a lot of heat from the Bush's adminstration and the anti-immigrant movement in this country and they act accordingly. This country has been using illegal workers for centuries and noone ever did anything about it until now. I wish the terrorists are getting male-virgins and not female ones in their so called paradise for what they did to immigrants and for making America such a paranoid place.Originally posted by EaglSkyB
I had my passport renewed after I got my approval. I think this is the safest way of doing it. Your argument will be that you are a permanent resident now and as it is mentioned in the INS website, all green Card holders are sharing the same rights.
If the INS doesn't want you to use or renew your national passport, they won't write in the approval notice that you can take your national passport and two pictures and have your passport stamped at the nearest local office. I don't think the INS is playing a game with you, they trick you to stamp your passport and then turn their backs and punish you. Just my opinion.
