Travel without travel card

I applied for marriage based green card in April. I did not receive any update on biometrics, work permit or travel document. Recently I got yo know that I have my biometrics appointment on Nov 8. I have couple of questions on that:
  1. After my biometrics, when can I expect to receive my EAD/travel card?
  2. I had plans to visit India in December of this year. If I do not receive the card before the first week of December, how safe it would be if I travel without the card and my spouse sends it to me in India and I return back with it?
I came to US as a student and my spouse being a US citizen, we applied for my green card. I do not anymore have my student status and have been waiting for my work permit to start working.

1. I cannot predict when you're likely to get issued with the EAD/AP card following your bio appointment.
2. Bad idea! Do not travel outside the US before your AP card has been approved and received. If you travel before the AP card gets approved/issued, your AOS application will be considered abandoned. Wait until you after you've received the AP card before undertaking any international trip.

FYI it has been taking almost 8 months, on average (so longer for some people), to process advance parole documents this year. I would suggest you book refundable/changeable tickets for your trip. As above, do not leave until you have your AP card.
