Travel within US while H1 or H4 extension is pending

Hi everyone and anyone who can advice :-)

Our visa (H1 petition) and I-94 are getting expired on April 30th 2002. Me and my wife have applied for extension on 11th Jan 2002 and 14th Feb 2002 respectively. Estimating the approval time (Texas service center) is like betting on a roll of dice. We are planning to travel within US by air in the near future. So my question is:

Is it safe to do so while our extension is pending? And what documents should we carry with us to show the proof of the extension? Would a copy of receipt from INS suffice? Would be of great help if anyone can answer this!

Thanks in advance for your help,
Kiran

Docs..

ID, passport with the old stamp is generally enough. INS can always trace a case with the passport.
If you have received the I797 receipt notice, then copy of that is more than enough.
No problems.
