Travel with AP, GC approved but not received yet?

At the end of my successfully approved GC interview last week we asked the officer that if we wanted to travel abroad in about a month what happens? He said in case I don't receive my GC in the mail by then I can use my AP to enter the US. He did not take the AP back for this reason.
He added it's going to be a little more hassle, since the border officer would probably see in his system that I already have a GC and why would I want to enter with an AP. But he said he can't deny me entrance to the US.

Is that true?
I know this may be a peculiar situation but does anyone has info or experience in this?

I know you'll suggest I should wait until I have my GC in my hand. Fair enough, I agree. But we have an opportunity to go on a nice group trip to Germany with my parents in late May and that'd be nice to do, plus my wife and I haven't been home in Hungary since 2007.

So is it possible to travel with AP when GC has already been approved but not in my posession?

No, don't change your travel plans because of immigration issues. I'm strongly against that, they affect our lives enough already.
When is your travel date? I got my GC 10 days after my interview, you should probably get it by the end of this week.
However, just schedule an infopass for the day before you're supposed to travel.
Had you not received your GC by then, you can try to get your passport stamped (bring plane tickets and proof that you're traveling with you).

You should be ok.

OK, thanks guys!

The Cleveland DO has been super fast so far, I hope my GC arrives soon. I started my GC case in February 1st and I'm already approved, that must be some kind of record. So I hope they keep the same speed when sending out my GC :)
