travel while AP renewal pending

I read someplace that one cannot travel when an Advance Parole application is pending.
----- Yes that is correct you need AP to be approved before departure from US
Is this true even for AP renewal.
----- It is true for first AP or second AP, AP is always new and one can not renew, you have to file for New AP and should have AP approved before you leave US if you want to use AP for entry to US
Please advise. Has anyone traveled while their AP renewal was pending.

But I do have a valid AP until May 2004. Can I travel and renter with my current AP while my second AP is pending.

if your NEW AP that is pending is approved before your departure from US you can use that also if it gets approved while you are in US.
if new pending AP gets approved while you are out of US dont use that AP in future better apply new AP when you come back

But if you have a valid visa status(h4 or h1) and also visa stamping dates on the passport are valid when AP is pending, then travel outside the country wont create any problems for pending 485.
only if there is no valid visa in passport and travel when AP is pending will create a problem at the port of entry and may abend the pending 485.
