travel when I485 is pending

i am kenyan citizen and on H1B which is not stamped.
I applied for -1485 (texas) and is still pending
i was wondering if i could visit india or not. do i have to get a travel document or would it be easier if i went to canada/ mexico and got my H1 stamped?
any help would be appreciated

Since you are not Canadian or Mexican, there is no guarantee that the consulate give you the visa stamp, and you'll need to return to your home country. You're much safer getting AP in this case.
