travel vi uk with h1b/F-1 and canadian permanent residency

Hi,
I have an expired H1B visa on my passport, but have valid I-797. My wife has expired F1 and is going to get her H1B visa in India. Both of us are canadian permanent residents of Canada, with a valid canadian PR card since August 2005. But, we have never lived in Canada as yet. Do we need to get a transit visa to pass through the UK?
