I have approved AP and i have go to Canada for some personal reasons. My I-94 and visa expired already and my 485 is pending. I am driving to toronto, so will it be a problem to come back to US by car. Is it same as someone reentering US through the airport? If anyone has any experience with this, please respond.

thanks

I didn't do it using AP. I drove back from Canada using the Passport Stamp before we got our cards.
We were at the border for quite awhile and then they wanted to search the car. Took us to the garage made us wait in a little room and looked through everything in the car. Luggage, purses, interior, under the hood, even opened up a thermos we had and my husbands fishing tackle box etc he had in the car when we left the US.

We do it several times a year and have never had a problem. I find the best (easiest) bridge to cross at is the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie. Detroit is the worst one you could cross at.

If you cross during the week, especially in the early morning, you will have a longer wait at secondary inspection (which you will always have to go to) due to people applying for TNs and other immigrant matters. Later evening and weekends are always best.

In all the travelling I've done, driving across the border is the easiest. If we do fly, we fly to Buffalo and then drive across the border. Not only is it easier, it's A LOT cheaper.

Regards and best of luck.

Just one more clarification, you will always have to do secondary inspection when using AP. We've never had secondary inspection with our TNs, H1Bs or GCs.
