Travel to USVI

I am not sure if this is the right place, but does anyone know if travel to USVI is okay if your 485 is pending and you have an advance parole. The last time we went to our home country and came back the immigration officer gave us a bit of a hard time because we did not say we went on a emergency and was lecturing us that advance parole was not a travel visa. So we do not want to go if we have to face immigration officers and all that again. But people have been saying that USVI is just another state so its okay.

Yup, the USVI are a US territory, so, even if they may check your immigration status JUST IN CASE (since the British VI and other islands are not too far away for one to sneak in from), your proof of legal status in the US will be enough.

You don't need Advance Parole or a visa stamp to travel to USVI or Puerto Rico and come back. You just need to be able to show proof of being in a legal immigration status, as they might ask for it at the airport in those countries. When I was at the airport in Puerto Rico about to fly back to the US, there was an officer in the waiting area (after I checked in and went through security) who was checking people's passports and papers. So bring your passport, I-485 receipt etc. and be prepared to show it.
