Hi all,
I was wondering if I could have some opinion on my situation.I'm an unmarried Indian physician. I came to the US on visitor visa in 1997. Subsequently, I converted my status to J-1 and did residency and fellowship. Now I'm doing J-1 waiver jod in an underserved area on H-1 status.
I have never travelled outside the US since 1997. I'll like to go to India to get married. I was wondering if I should apply for H-1 visa in India or should I go to Mexico/Canada to get it done if it is still possible. Should I be anticipating any major problems?
Please let me know of your recent experiences and any suggestions.
Thanks.

either way , if u have never been out of status there will be no problem , take all documents, degree or get it notarized by your lawyer, woo 8 years after the first visit

Applying for visa in India shouldnt be a problem. Just carry all the documents.

You people must read general H1 visa stamping thread. 2 out of three got 221g and waiting some time more than 3 months to get stamped. Again get appointment takes 2 to 3 months.
There is some risk associated with it.

Hi Jackpot ! Is it easy to convert from J1 residency to a J1 fellowship program? or does one need a waiver inbetween?

There is no problem continuing on J-1 if you have an available fellowship slot. There is no need to do a J-1 waiver in between.
