Hi Raj,

Yes, I am talking about traveling from India back to US. I have never had my US immigration (GC) checked before by the Indian immigration.
Only people who have checked is the airlines personnel.
This is Mumbai port I am talking about..

When I came last time, Immigration officer in Delhi did check my GC and it was very annoying me...anyway...Anybody visited India with I-551 Stamp, am just conused,....should i go or wait for my plastic card...

I just came back from Tokyo.
While I didn't need a visa to visit Japan, Japanese immigration authorities and airline staff asked for my green card SEVERAL times, even when I was departing from Newark.
Airlines are liable for any cost if somebody is denied entry in the US.

Hi:

Absolutely. And it's not just the US --- virtually every country imposes large fines on the airlines for transporting an undocumented/obviously inadmissable passenger. That makes sense. My question was regarding Indian immigration officials.

I understand that in Japan when leaving for the US and that being the return leg of the trip.
I just don't get why they asked for my green card (three times) prior to boarding my flight to Tokyo at Newark Airport. My passport was enough to enter Japan for 90 days.

I got my Green Card through my spouse and my case for removing the condition has been approved. The Immigration officer said that it would take atleast 4 months to get the original plastic card meanwhile I got the I-551 stamped on the passport which says : "Upon endorsement, serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residency for one year."

With this will I be able to travel to India and come back without any issues?

Has anyone travelled outside U.S with this stamping on passport?

I need to travel this Monday due to some emergency.

Please help!

hi, Did you get back?....if yes let me know your experience please

Raj: Sorry it took a while to respond to your message. I came back without any issues. JFK was my POE and when i got to the Immigration counter the officer put my documents in a folder and directed me to an office, when i went there they just asked my name and I was redirected to a different counter. The officer over there took my documents and he asked me to wait , (i think he was running a check ). Then he called my name and stamped my Passport and there I was back in the States.

For anyone who is looking for an answer if you could travel with a GC stamped in the passport. It's an absolute YES!!

Hope this helps!

Ashin2, Kamrans -> Thank you!
