Travel to India(Air Lanka), please advise....

Please excuse me for posting non-immigration related issue on this forum but, I felt where else can I get quick,expert advice other than this forum...
I am planning to travel to India by Air Lanka(airlines).
Can anybody share their experience with this airlines as I am about to confirm the tickets because of the flexibility in dates.
Pls advise, your replies are highly appreciated.

Anything is better than Air India.............I guess for most of the people timimg and money is more important but it seems for you comfort is more important so why don't you wait and get an airlines of your choice?
 
Air Lanka

is at a very high risk of being bombed by the LTTE. It is cheap because no-one wants to travel in it. There are plenty of other carriers that will be adequate and inexpensive - Royal Jordanian, for example.

But hey - it is your dime.

U really think Royal Jordanian is safer than Air Lanka ?? Well....no airline can be really compared anymore...u know what I mean....the risk is the same...but..just fyi, LTTE is on the road to peace...big time !....Im not kidding you pal. On the other hand, Royal Jordanian is an islamic state's national airline.... I would take the chance and fly air lanka !!....well....besides, think about it, ugly stewardes' in flashy sarees would serve you great booze and hot spicy food...

Beware of your passport and Visa..

Althought this is immaterial to the airlines you travel, make sure you have your passport and visa safe. I've heard cases of Visa being ripped off from the passport, and sold to the fake passport industry. That is something we gotta watch out for.
No airlines is safer these days.. even high secure Israeli airlines.. When we get out and get into a plane you are as safe as a deer crossing a highway in the middle of the night. I travel every other week from Newark to LAX and I have kinda gotten used to that.
Good luck and keep your eyes and ears open. Thats the most sensible general advice anyone could give.
 
Terrible experience with AIR Lanka

I was stranded at the airport as I missed the connecting flight. Becuase of shelling around the airport there was no power. The airlines offered me a nights stay at a hotel 20 KM away. I feared for my life and did not take it.
 
Nice Experience

I flew to Madras from chicago in 1995, United to London and from there Lankan Air. Air craft from London was airbus and congested, but service was awsome. In Colombo, at the airport for 1 dollar u can take shower too. While comming back the flight stopped in Dubai briefly (ticket never mentioned) I got worried being in Arab country, surprizingly I saw Arab security women in pants and shirt (still cant believe).
But be prepared the people come from London to Colombo are bunch of Trailer trash britishers, give lot of trouble to air hostesses and crew demand service since they get in to plane. Otherside, my flight was delayed comming to London missed my connecting flight to Chicago, so Lankan arranged nice Hotel in London and ticket in British Air. This time the people are very gentle just like in Americans (may be passengers are more American or what ever). Overall good experience nice people congested seating. BONVOYAGE.
