Travel To Hong Kong

I just came from the Chinese consulate today and the lady there did not recognize my RTD. She said that I would need a GC to enter HK or China (Beijing). Unfortunately, our GC is still being processed.

However, when she asked if we had other passports, I told her my NP and she said, with this, I can stay in HK for 2 weeks and easily get a visa for the rest of China. So I was wondering, how would that work? When we leave the US, we show our RTD and upon arrival we use our NP? The lady also said that our Chinese visa would be on our RTD so when we leave HK, we use our RTD and then our NP again coming back? Then finally, coming back to the US, we use our RTD again? This is the first time we are leaving the US since becoming asylees so I have no idea how things work. Is it ok to be using different travel documents at each point of exit/entry? Also, is their a risk in doing this? Hope somebody could shed some light on this. Thanks!
