Hello,

I will be travelling to Canada end of this month. I have filed my I-485 last year and currently have my EAD and AP. My I-140 is also approved. Do I need a Canadian tourist visa stamped on my passport before I leave for Canada? I called by the consulate in Buffalo today and the lady there said that I do not need a visa since I'm waiting for my green card. I am a little scared of taking such a step as it is easy for her to say but what if i go there and they don't let me in?? Can someone advice me about that? I will be travelling with my AP. My H1-b stamp in passport has expired.

Thanks!!

---YES
I called by the consulate in Buffalo today and the lady there said that I do not need a visa since I'm waiting for my green card.
---that is wrong info, I think you talked to Canada consulate and they dont know the diffrence betwen applying GC and getting GC in hand
I am a little scared of taking such a step as it is easy for her to say but what if i go there and they don't let me in??
---you are correct ,that lady does not know the correct answer, just filing I-485 does not mean that you have approved GC, she gave you wrong advice, if you have GC stamp on passport and are waiting for Plastic card(GC) then no problem
Can someone advice me about that?
--- to enter Canada get Canada Visitor visa
I will be travelling with my AP. My H1-b stamp in passport has expired.
-----show your AP when coming back to US, if coming to US by Air then the US immigration is at Canada airports before you take flight for US you will face US immigration, if coming by border then you will face US immigration before you enter US border
Thanks!!

Thanks for the advice Ginnu. I called up Washington DC consulate and they told me that i do indeed need a visa.
