Travel Overseas between interview and oath?

I have planned an overseas trip on 7/22 which will be very expensive to reschedule. I have just got a notice from INS (San Jose, priority 9/2001) to appear for the initial interview on 7/16. This is just a few days before my planned trip. Now, my question is: Can I go for my interview on 16th, travel overseas on 22nd, come back in the middle of August, and take my oath in late August or September? If so, can I ask at the interview time for an oath date after my trip? Does INS approve of overseas trips between interview and oath dates?

I am a bit surprised to get the letter so quickly as I didn\'t expect it, having heard about the delays at the San Jose office.

I had my interview in March and went to India in April. I asked the INS officer if that would be OK and she said it should not be a problem and I also consulted my attorney before leaving and she too said it was OK to go..........

I am in a similar situation. Thanks for the clarification from your personal experience.However, I would like to know as to how long it takes for the call for "OATH CEREMONY" after the interview for "NATRUALIZATION"
 
Travel betwn. interview and oath for a short period is no problem as long as you still meet the physical presence reqmt and continue to maintaim PR status. Such trip better be supported by a good reason to ravel.
