Travel on Passport Stamp

Has anyone used the passport stamp for rentry. My green card was approved on march 13th after interview in SFO. Online message say's
"Current Status:

On April 7, 2003, your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status was received here for processing. It is taking between 160 and 180 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete.
"

I am not sure what it means but it looks like, it going to be a while before I get plastic cards. I am plaaning to travel to India in May, hence my question. Will I have problems in India or US if I show them my passport and not the actual plastic card.

Any input is much appreciated.

It been discussed on this forum before but you should be fine. Just make sure you take your approval letter with you just in case they cause trouble when coming back from India(when boarding the flight in inda). Hopefully you should get your card between now and May.
