Travel on F-1 visa (changed status from J-1)

I changed my status from J-1 to F-1 on 08/2005.

The USCIS sent me a new I-94 and a from I-797A saying that my new class is F-1 and Valid from 08/2005 (valid for duration of status).

They also sent me back the stamped I-20. The length of my study on I-20 is from 09/06/2005 to 08/31/2006.

I want to travel back to my own country this summer (07/2006) after getting a new I-20 from my new school (will start in fall 2006). I have a question that "do I have to apply for a new visa in order to re-enter United States before 08/31/2006?"

Thank you very much.

Yes, you do need to apply for a new visa either way (because of the status change)
