Travel Emergency & expired AP.

I have a family emergency at home in India and want to travel ASAP. 485 under processing; First AP expired in Feb AND new AP is applied for.
The notice date for AP application is Jan 30th, 2004 and the Notice states this type of case takes 30 to 60 days.
It's over 60 days now and the USCIS web status still shows its under process.
1) Is there any way I could get the new AP quickly?
2) Is it okay to travel to India without an AP? Do I expect problems, to come back and enter into US?

Any response will be appreciated !!!

Thank you.

family emergency

I had applied for my 1st AP in oct'03 but had to travel due to family emergency in jan'04. went to the newark, NJ USCIS office and applied for a new AP and showed them documentation in regards to the emergency. AP issued the same day. had to pay again, which is unfair, but what can u do

if you r going to newark, nj office just make sure you get there early, as they do limited number of cases everyday.

No problems while coming back. Original AP from VSC showed up last week!!!, after i had finished my trip.

DO NOT LEAVE U.S WITHOUT AP .
you cannot reenter without AP and if you leave before getting AP, your 485 is considered to be abandoned .
