Travel during H1 processing

I am currently on H4. I plan to file my H1 on April 1st. Can I travel to India during the processing period?

If not, is there a way out?

If employer is filing H4 to H1 COS and you go out when COS is pending then Change of status is abandoned.
If employer is filing fresh H1, then you can go out and once H1 gets approved you can get H1 visa stamp and enter on H1.
