Dear all,

I got my RTD in 3 weeks. The president of my company sent a letter to the Congressman. However, I have questions. I'll probably get my GC soon, so I have two questions:

1.- Do I have to sent my RTD back to USCIS as soon I get my GC?
2.- Even I can still using my RTD, there is a country in Latinamerican that doesn't recognize the TD, so Can I use for this country my NP, which is still valid? and for the others the RTD?

Thanks in advance,

Carlos777

When you get your GC, you will become a Permanent Resident. Your RTD says you are an asylee, so lets say you get your GC tommorow & took a trip and came back, there is a chance that officers at POE will confisicate your RTD just because it says asylee and you are a PR.

In the past, they did not use to care much but now they are making sure they process everyone correctly. So you dn't have to send it back, if you have to travel for emergency reasons, keep it, you can still travel with it, its up to the officer to take it from you..

As for visiting another country with your NP while you are an asylee. I wouldn't suggest you do that. Using a NP whether you never renewed it or not doesn't matter, the fact that you used your NP can be a pointer to USCIS that you are still seeking protection for your COP instead of the United States.

Could a letter be sent months after applying for the RTD??? I appied in February and I need it ASAP. They seem to be processing December cases now. What do I do? I am really frustrated?

Can you clear my mind here- So, AFTER we become PR, the right document to travel with will be a Reentry Permit?

Or ONLY a green card will do it?

Thank you!

Mauricio..... as a GC holder who was a former asylee, you must still travel with a GC and RTD. Re-entry permits are only needed IF you plan on staying out of the country longer than a year and you also still have a valid NP.

You can use your NP+GC if you are comfortable using your NP. If it has been long time since you applied for asylum, using NP wont cause you any problems in my opinion.

If you can't get a NP or don't want to travel with NP, you can use RTD or RP. I used a RP and the officer said you can use any you want, it doesn't matter to them. No matter what, they always ask you how long you have been away for so using RP would make no difference.

Thank you guys!

for the responses. I am still waiting fro the GC... But I applied in 06-2006, and although I have already sent the requested medical exams, I think I have a long wait ahead of me.
