Travel before AP approval?

Hey Gurus
I need your help. If I apply for AP Can I leave th country before I get it? and ask one of the friend to mail it to the home country? Is there any we can expidite the process? Is there any special consideration for children under 13?

What if you leave after applying and it is denied or delayed for some reason? Is it worth the risk?
