Travel and residency reqmts for citizenship

Requirement for citizenship is 30 months in the USA out of 60 months. What if the applicant stayed in the USA for the first 30 months, and due to personal circumstances desires to travel elsewhere for the remainder 30 months, while touching base in the USA for a month every 5 months so that he is never outside the USA for more than 6 months.

Outside USA = 5 months
In USA for next month
Outside USA again = 5 months
In USA for next month
And so on.....

The applicant is following the directions established by INS and is following the law.

Is there any reason this could constitute a problem??

Thank you in advance for your insights.

Thanks JoeF for your prompt response.

When is the earliest date one can file the N-400 form. My understanding is that one can file on the day one has completed 4 years and 9 months in the USA, and not 5 years after GC.

Am I correct? Anyone know why this 4.9 vs 5.0 discrepancy??

Thank you.

I have a question regarding residency requirements. I have applied for my citizenship on Nov 2002. I have travelled approximately for 90 days in the preceding 5 years.

My future wife may come to Canada for studies. The place would be only 3-4 h drive for me. Let us assume that I travel to Canada every weekend. How would that affect the residency?

I still plan to own my house in Ohio, work in Ohio, pay taxes in Ohio. I would at the maximum spend 104 days out of 365 days. Do I run risk of residency requirements when the interview comes around?

Thanks
Sundar
