travel and last name question

I got my GC thru my spouse few months ago and we are planning to travel. My question is my spouse has last name ABC and I write -DEF as my last name. We named our daughter 22 months in my grandparents memory and she has a different last name which is also our caste name- XYZ. My wife and daughter are US citizens.

Would this cause a problem when I travel? Would the guys at immigration counter at airport in NY or chicago give me a hard time on return.

Also I was stuck in name check for 2 years before I got approved. Would this have an impact. I intially came in on J-1, went to home country for 2 years and then came in on H1. Married within 2 months of coming back and here we are.

Any suggestions for travelling to india. Given the way immigration works I am just scared about anything that has to do with dealing with immigration / airport folks.

Thanks

Any time you travel with a small child that has a different last name from yours, be prepared to carry evidence of your parent/child relationship (birth certificate or other proof)... not just when you return, but also when you are leaving the US (if they don't believe you are the parent, suspicions of child abduction may be raised). And that is not just when you travel, but also when you do other things like enroll the child in school.

Your pre-GC name check delay will not affect your post-GC travel.

Keep a letter from your wife name and child name, child date of birth, child passport number that Child Name…. Is traveling with you (your name, DOB, your passport #) and you are the real father of the child and she does not have any objection for the child name… to travel with you anywhere in the world and with any airlines. She should give you 2-3 copies of the letter and she need to sign letter before Notary public on letter she should write her name, DOB, address, phone # email. If Airline ask then show the letter
