Travel after interview

We have our interview scheduled at San Jose Office on June 05th. If we pass the interview, what will be our status? Will we have any passport with us? How long does it take to get American passport?

Can we plan on travelling outside the country after interview?

After you 'pass' the interview....nothing changes.

You're still a permanent resident alien with a foreign passport and a green card. You have no special rights or privileges. If everything goes well, you will be recommended for citizenship by the interview officer.

After this (within 4 months), you will receive an invitation for an oath ceremony. You only become a US citizen after the oath ceremony (and can then apply for a passport which normally takes between 10 days and 1 month if expedited).

And a lot longer if you don't get it expediated. I'm on over 2 months for my passport and it's still showing as being processed. Also you may have to document your trip before the oath as well. You also don't want to be gone that long incase you do get your oath letter in the mail...

Yes, you can travel. Yes, you need to say that you traveled internationally on the form you bring to the oath ceremony. Yes, you want to make sure that someone checks your mail for your oath letter and that you don't miss the oath.
