Guys:

Did someone travel with I551 stamp while waiting for the phyiscal card?
Please post your experience here.

With the way things going crazy w.r.t. travel visa requirements (even
transit requires visa), it will be helpful if y'all can post your experience
of travel in & out of the US.

I traveled with I-551 stamp

I traveled with my I-551 stamp IMMEDIATELY after the day of approval and stamping. I didn't have any issues at all. I traveled to Madras, India and the only problem I had there was with a new DELTA personnel who didn't understand the significance of I-551 stamp. She said, "Sir, can you show me your parole?" I told her that this is my Permanent Resident stamp and parole is not something she needs. She didn't understand. So, rather than arguing with her ad nauseam, I said, OK here is the parole. So, she allowed me to check-in after verifying that my parole was valid until March 2006. Duh!

Other than that, I never had any issues whatsoever. Indian immigration seems to understand I-551, French transit authorities seem to understand it and once I came back to Atlanta International, I was sent to secondary inspection. That's about it.

So, traveling with I-551 stamp is very safe.

Good luck dude. You will have absolutely no problems with your travel on I-551 stamp. Just have your approval letter with you at all times, just in case, if anybody is caught by unawares in Madras. As I said, I traveled the very next day as I didn't have time to even worry about as I had to travel. If I wouldn't have had my approval, I would have gone on Advance Parole.

So, I-551 experience was cool and was refreshing :)

Kalakku machi.

How do you remember those lines. I remember reading
them about 20 years ago in Ramakrishna School, T Nagar.

How to schedule appt for stamping in Newark

Could you tell me how to schedule appointment in Newark for stamping after I-485 approval? I didnt received any letter from UCSIS for stamping and I need to travel outside USA pretty soon.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

katrina_kaif ( )

You won't get any notification with your I485 approval notice.
You may (yes, may) get welcome letter which will contain instructions
on getting I551 stamping etc.

Nevertheless, you need to go online at the USCIS website and
setup an InfoPass appointment (I forgot the reason for appt to choose, but
there is one for getting appointment for approvals).

When I tried for getting appointment for this category, I couldn't get.
I basically tricked it, by getting an appointment for regular enquiry of
my case. Once I got the appointment, I modified the appt and
changed the reason for the visit. I did the same way for my wife and
it worked.

Good luck.

Hi sbba:

I sent an email to German Consulate in Houston and I got an email back
from them as follows:
----------
Indian and Turkish airport transit travelers (coming to U.S.) who

- are holding a valid visa or other residence permit for the USA (an approval notice is not sufficient), Canada or Switzerland and travel to the country which issued that visa or residence permit

or (from U.S.)

- after a legal stay in the USA, Canada or Switzerland- return to the country whose citizenship they hold

do not need an airport transit visa.
----------
Hope this helps. BTW, I am planning to visit India during 2nd week
of Jan via Frankfurt. I got my GC but the GC has my first name abbreviated
(for eg, instead of John Smith, it has J Smith). I don't know if
that is going to cause any problems, but I am going to give it a shot.

Good luck to you sbba.
