Travel after GC via consular processing

My in-laws recently appeared for interviews in Mumbai and go their GCs (IR5). They will arrive in US next month (their immigrant visa and medical expire in June). However, due to some family events they need to go back to India in August (stay there till October-November) and then come back to the US. Do they need any special permission for this short travel back to India? Please advise

No. And they don't need to wait for the plastic green card, as their immigrant visas, once used to enter the US, immediately turn into temporary I-551s (proof of permanent residency, equivalent to green cards) valid for 1 year after entry (so if they enter in May 2024, the immigrant visas automatically turn into I-551s (equivalent to green cards) valid until May 2025.
