Hello All,

My Visa has expired in Dec and I have applied for H1 extension. I am flying from London. Does London needs any transition visa ?

Please Advice,

London Transition

If you are changing airports in London(Heathrow & Gatwick), then you do need transit visa. If not, transit visa in not required.

Transit visa is also issued on the airport. But just to avoid any delay and last minute anxiety, it is sometimes wise to get visa ahead of the travel dates.

I am not sure if your H1 visa is expired on your passport, how will you be able to enter US? From other thread, I understand that you will be entering US on GC (CP route) approval. After you have your successful CP interview at the US consulate in India, then H1 visa is not required.

Thanks.

I need to change the flight from same airport... Heathrow, London. I will not be getting out of the airport. Anyone has any suggestion as to where I can get any info about need for transition visa.

Thanks

Transition visa not required if flights from same airport

As far as I know there no reqirement of transition visa if your connecting flight is from the same airport and you don't plan to go out of the airport for the time duration between your arriving and departing flights.

Thanks.

If it were Lufthansa i would say you defenitely need it. But I am not sure about other airlines. You better call up the airlines cusomer service number and enquire about it. You dont want to be stunned or stuck when you get to the airport.

One does not need transit visa for

London, Amsterdam, Singapore, Milan or Moscow ....

But its needed for Paris, Zurich, Frankfurt ...

If u are changing airports in London, they will give u a 24 hrs transit visa right there ... so no sweat ...

I had the same issue in July when I was flying for my interview and had done a research on this ... I wanted to fly Delta, Swiss Air, Air France or Luftansa but after talking to French and German consulates and airlines, I decided not to go via them ... so I finally flew KLM ...

Talk to the consulates and the airlines for the latest info ...

a quick question

My six years is expiring in march 2003, my employer filed for H1 ext. in dec 2002. The processing time is 90 to 120 days.
I am expecting my CP interview is going to be some time in Apr or May 2003.

If I don't get extension approved by April I am planning to take INS receipt notice and travel via frankfurt(lufthansa) for the interview.

Are there going to be transit visa problems? Is it better to fly via London?

Thanks,

getMyGcCp ...

if u do not get the H1 approval by then , i would suggest u fly British Airways, KLM/NW, Alitalia, Singapore Airlines or Aeroflot .....

Avoid Luftansa, Delta, Air India(via Frankfurt or Paris), Swiss Air and Air France ....

One of my friends was not allowed to board at Newark in Luftansa as her visa had expired and she did not have a transit visa .... she was then routed via Amsterdam .....

So avoid trouble when u have the time to plan :D

My visa also has expired in Dec. I have the approval notice but not revalidated my stamp. I am planning to travel for interview in April. I might go by Kuwait Airways. Does anyone know if there is any issue with this ? Thanks.

re-validated stamp not needed

Lavanya,

Re-validation stamp on passport is needed only if you plan to travel outside US and then be bcak in US before you get your LPR status. So just having a valid H1 (valid, unexpired timestamp till your interview date on I-94 attached to your H1) for your stay in US will be enough to maintain your legal status in US.

There will not be any issues with not having re-validation stamp on passport for CP interview in India.
Thanks.
