Transit visas in Europe, etc

Hi all,

A comment about transit visas in Europe and other countries. I've been in transit in many countries in Europe and have never had to had a transit visa (even though if I wanted to go into the country I'd need a visitor's visa).

What ends up hapenning is that you have to stay within the customs boundaries, i.e. you have not entered the country until the officer gives you the stamp of approval (have you seen "The Terminal"?). A lot of countries In Europe have wonderful in-customs duty free areas where you can spend definitely several hours either browsing, eating, or having a brew. Schipol and Heathrow are personal favourites.

Mind you, for some reason the US lags big time in airport setup. If you ever want to change flights in USA, you have to enter the US territory before going onto your outbound flight: e.g. Lat America - Miami - Europe... and thus you need a visa. And of course, there are no nice duty free areas here :-(.

Anyway, just my 2c.
