Hello,

I received a few emails about this new requirement (transit visas) for travelling via Europe to India. all indian citizens are required to get transit visas even if the stop-over is short.

there have been similar rumours like this in the past but the situation is different now (everybody wants to be security conscious) and so just wanted to confirm. anybody heard of this? obviously checking with the respective consulate would help. But many a times this is just a rumour and the consulate people don\'t have a clue as to what we are asking.

I believe its true for France ... i saw the note on their Website but did not the contents of the ar

U can see it on the French Embassy website

transit visa reqd for travel through Schengen countries if you do not have valid US visa in your pas

Thats what I have heard/read. Search for "transit visa" on this forum and you will find quite a few articles.

Funny part is that the German consulate website indicates if you have a valid US visa then you do not need a transit visa. But if you go and look under the requirements to obtain a transit visa, one of the requirements is valid US visa!! Kind of like chicken and egg. But I think they should give you a transit visa if you have valid I94 but expired visa stamp.

Of course, GC holders do not need transit visa at all.

What about Singapore?

May travel through Singapore with a stop of
10 hours.

On return (hopefully) we will have the IV packet
but no visa (because H1 will be cancelled in the
interview). Will this cause problems for getting/
using a transit visa?

singapore

A few years ago, a friend of mine, who had Australian PR was not allowed to exit the immigration at Singapore, because Indian passport holders are required to apply for transit visa before arriving in the country. Australian citizens don\'t need a visa for a 3 month visit to Singapore, and it is likewise for Singaporeans. In the current atmosphere, it would be prudent to check out with the Singapore embassy before travelling.

No Title

I\'m planning to do that...checked with Singapore
Air, they say we don\'t need a transit visa as long as
we don\'t leave the airport.

transit visa

I don\'t think you should have any problem as long as you don\'t have to go through immigration. The airport is large enough to spend a whole day without any problems. If you have more than 6 hours, you can even take a free A/C bus ride for a tour of the city (without a transit visa or going through immigration) conducted by the Singapore government. They hold your passport during your trip. To go on the ride just find the tourism desk for registration.

I read this thread and want to share the information I have regarding transit visa. I am not sure about other European countries but France definitely requires transit visa even if you are only changing flights and not going out of airport.

Today I visited French Consulate office in Atlanta and got my transit visa. I will be travelling by Delta airlines to Mumbai via Paris. They issue transit visa for only one month. They issue transit visa immediately if you go in person with required documents. The documents needed are airline tickets, itinerary, passport and your visa (H1, F1 etc) an dduly filled form. GC holders do not require transit visa.

I have a valid Visa stamp ( h1b) on my passport.

I am planning to go thru Germany..do i need transit visa..
