Transit visa

Hi everyone,

I want to know does one need British transit visa for travelling through London by British airways or Indian airlines, which stops at London? I have read that if one has a valid visa for USA and is travellingt o USA, then one does not a transit visa. But the rule also says that one must return within 6 months of departure date (for not requiring transit visa). Does this mean if one extends their stay beyond 6 months, then S/he would require a transit visa in return journey?

If so, what is the procedure for getting a Bristish transit visa from India or USA. How long it is valid, i.e., is it valid for each travel or for a year or so?

Second question:

Can one travel to USA with B1 visa with a one way ticket? Will this be a problem at the POE (Boston or New york)? Has any one's parents, relative or friends actually travelled with a one way ticket to USA on B1 visa? I would appreciate if they can share their experience. If round trip ticket is better can one have a ticket with open retuen date for a year? Do airlines issue one year open ticket? If so which airlines give this type of ticket (one year open ticket) and how much the price difference is? If anyone knows a good travel agent who issues this type of open ticket for one year (either in India or USA) would also be helpful.

My parents will be travelling to USA soon on B1 visa and I am planning to extend their stay beyond 6 months. So, I would appreciate any info in this regard.

Thank you.
