No it is not a visa. It is a I-551 stamp. She must have an Airport
Transit Visa to transit through any French airport.

Merci,
EC

Paris Transit Visa

Guys
No need to have Paris Transit Visa if you have I-1551 stamped,
i Triple confirmed this with Air-India, i don't know about other airlines.
On top of all my wife traveled last month by Air-India, Via PAris.

NO PROBLEMS...

French Embassy, New Delhi, has a notice saying that People travelling to USA, Canada with a valid visa, green card or AP DO NOT NEED A TRANSIT VISA. This is first hand information as I was at the embassy yesterday

street_dog,

Good to know that your wife traveled by Air-India via paris recently without any problems. We are also traveling by Air India in October. When I contacted the France Consulate, NY, they were saying that we need Transit Visa, I do not know what to do, any suggestions?

Thank You

If you do not have any valid VISA stamp in your passport and you are travelling on AP, you NEED transit VISA, if you are travelling through Paris by Air India. I went to the french embassy in NY and they confirmed. It is also clearly mentioned in their web site.
I travelled to India on AP and came back from India in August. A french immigration officer came into the flight at Paris airport and asked us our status. I told him I am travelling on AP. He then told me to show the passport and the transit VISA. This is my experience and it is for sure you need transit VISA.

just a suggestion

rapide1's response is correct to the best of my knwoledge. here is an alternative...i am assuming u r not stopping over in paris (transit visa)...why dont u fly emirates and go directly JFK-Dubai-Mumbai? no visas needed at all and Indians are welcome :)

cheers

already purchased tickets from Air India. Just trying to findout whether Passsport with GC stamp is enough or do we have to get Transit Visa.

Thank You

if you are traveling by air-india via paris, you dont need trasnit visa. Because

if you are always inflight if you are traveling by airindia, they dont even allow you to go outside

Please see my comments earlier. Even though we do not get out of the flight, French Immigration officers will come into the flight and check. This is my own experience because I faced it.
Transit VISA is also required if you have GC stamped in the passport. This is clearly mentioned in their web site. Take a look

Paris Transit Visa

I just checked one of email accounts and found this response from French Consulate, Washington dc.

As per Wanshiton French Consulate, Paris Transit visa not needed for people with GC stamp on their passport and without actual card.

Now, I do not know, whether I should apply Paris Transit visa or not.

Dear Sir,

If the USA Permananent resident stamp of your wife is valid, she does
not need an airport transit visa.

Sincerely,

I went to the French Embassy in NY. Reached around 8.30am. They open at 9am. You can print the form from the web. You have to show your tickets. They do not ask many questions for airport transit VISA. The validity of the ATV will be for the duration of your travel (max of 3 months). I requested them to give me a ATV for 3 months and they obliged. The VISA was stamped in the passport on the spot. I was out around 11am.
I checked with them regarding GC holders. They mentioned that you dont need a ATV if you have your green CARD. If you have the I-551 stamp, you definitely need the ATV.
Refer to the web site for all details:

You can also call them on phone and they will give you all the details.

I mentioned same date as above

34. Na me of hotel/host company ---- I think I can leave this blank, right?
Leave it blank

The lady at the counter did not check my application. She saw my tickets, wrote the dates on the application and stamped the transit VISA. Infact I had also not filled many items. They will give only a single entry VISA. You may ask her to give you a 3 month transit VISA just in case you have to postpone your return trip.
