Transfer of an expired H1B

I am working on an H1B visa that expired on 8/3/2003. My employer filed an extension on 6/3/2003.

If my employment terminates for any reason, and I find a new sponsor, will I be able to effect a visa transfer(considering the fact that the original H1B has expired)?

On a related note, if the new employer files for a new H1B, can I start working based on the receipt?

Will employers prefer H1B transfer rather than a new H1B for any reason?

1.U can file h1 transfer after a layoff
2. new h1: have to wait till approval.
3.h1 transfers are counted towards the cap. rejection risks are much reduced for a h1 transfer (theoritically)
