Transfer from H4 Visa

Hi,

I am currently in US on H4 Visa. I have been working in India earlier and have nearly 7 years of IT experience.

1. I would like to know the process for applying for H1 Visa while I am in US itself. When do I have to start this process if I am planning to start working in 2008?

2. Can I start working after I get the revised I-94 form?

3. I am also interested in doing further studies and taking up a research work and then work in that area. What should I do for this? Is this a better option than compared to obtaining H1?

I am in a total confusion since I don't know which is the best and the easiest option. I don't have anyone to guide me on these so I am fully relying on this forum.

Employer applies LCA and then H1 petition on April 1.
2. Can I start working after I get the revised I-94 form?
No. earliest starting date is Oct 1.
3. I am also interested in doing further studies and taking up a research work and then work in that area. What should I do for this? Is this a better option than compared to obtaining H1?
I can't tell. It's up to you.
