Transfer from academic H1B

Hi,

I'm currently working for a University (non-profit) on a H1B and am planning to move to a company (profit-based). Can I do a H1B transfer anytime? Or do I have to wait till Oct 2007 to get into the 65,000+20,000 quota? Please reply ..

I may be wrong, but once you are granted an H1B visa, are you still subject to the 65000+20000 quota?

I am on a similar situation, H1B for a non-profit University looking for jobs on private companies.
I am new to this forum, do you have any suggestions to make my H1B transfer a smooth process? Which forms do I have to file?

Unless you were counted toward quota before, you are subject to quota for industry H1.

In case you file under H1 quota, your quota opens up in Oct therefore your start date will be in Oct. H1 petition can be filed up to 6 months prior to H1 start date. The earliest start date you can set is Oct 1 if you are subject to quota, which makes your eariest date to file H1 petition April 1.
