Traffic Tickets

Are applicants for US citizenship required by USCIS to report all traffic violations (I am assuming only in instances where you plead guilty).

If so is it ONLY for the period between GC approval and US citizenship application?

I searched the forum and getting conflicting details.

Thanks

I reported the traffic tickets I had ,and just in case I added a copy from the Motor Vehicles Administration Records to the appplication package. The copy I gave to them includes everything since I got here. You never know what they need as proof. If I were you I would list the ones you had on the application. At my interview, they asked me about it, and if I paid the fines. The officer was not too worried about it, but asked anyway.

Traffic tickets are not reportable to CIS, regardless if you plead guilty or not. Traffic arrests are.

From the guide to Naturalization:

Note that unless a traffic incident was alcohol or drug related, you do not need to submit documentation for traffic fines and incidents that did not involve an actual arrest if the only penalty was a fine less than $500 and/or points on your driver’s license.

We still have to report them. Better safe than sorry! USCIS laws and regulations contradict itself, there is always a grey area everytime you look at an issue. Also ,each officer approaches things differently. It won't hurt to tell them.

So, we take the spews off an immigration board rather the the published info from the CIS?

I would suggest reporting overdue library books then, too.

Btw, US wants/begs me to become a citizen. Don't you feel that way too?

Once again, it won't hurt to tell!

This needs to be a sticky in the Citizenship forum.

The USCIS will tell you that you do not need to disclose them if under $500 and non DUI, the IO will tell you the same.

This has been a heated debate on many boards already. I found out the easy way, called the USCIS and was told I did not need to disclose it.

My IO asked if I had ever gone to court, I said twice for traffic fines, he realized they were under $500 and not DUI. I asked the IO if I should have disclosed them and he said no you are fine.

If you do however disclose them, then you very well might need to prove you paid them and will have to do a lot of extra work.

Take it from people that have had the interview and talked to the USCIS...

... and just to be clear, don't take my suggestion to report overdue library books. You never know with the level of questions that are asked on this board.
