Traffic citation during N-400 process! Help pls.....

Hi! I have read in different forums that minor traffic violation won't affect the N-400 process but I have some questions. My car got hit early this month while changing lane and had some fender bender. To make the story short the cop hand me a citation for unsafe change of lane. I went to court to contest it but they said that since this is my first time to have a traffic violation, I am eligible for the "Deffered entry" which I need to make sure that my driving records will be clean for another six months and the case will be dissmiss and it wont go on my record. Would this 6months deffered entry affect my N-400 process? And does it mean I am on probation or something? I am not familiar with this so maybe anyone out there had the same experience that you could share. This have been worrying me so much this past few weeks. Thanks!

Please don't worry about your fender bender issue! The accident happened and citation was issued. That cannot be changed.

In fact, this won't even affect your N400 application. Make sure to collect all the papers like citation ticket, any papers relating to "deferred entry" etc. and keep at least two copies of those docs.

Take them to the interview and tell this to the Interviewing Officer so s/he can update the records. This may probably delay the Oath process provided you pass the interview on other aspects.

My wife didn't have a citation for many years in the US but on the day of the Oath (she came home by 10am after passing the interview) she got stopped by a cop for speeding; the cop didn't bother much about the speed because she was doing 11 over the speed limit but she didn't have the insurance on her; so he gave a citation to show the insurance at the court or pay the fine. With this situation, she went to the Oath and mentioned this to the Officer but he didn't care too much because she was already a citizen, technically. So, one traffic ticket will not alter the course of your N400 app.

Good luck

Thank you howdy_howdy! Yes, I kept all the receipt and documents with me to take with me to the interview. I really appreciate the help!

Nothing to worry about. In a country where 90% of the population drives cars with just 2 pedals, I expect everyone to get hit by some idiot or another during their time in the US :)

This have been worrying me so much this past few weeks.
