All,

Going through various posts, I notice that a number of people recently have had the "dual-A file" or "background check" issues post-interview in Newark - enough to have our own Newark thread to track how things are being resolved and also share tips on what seems to work and/or not work with local senators, congressman etc.

So if you're having (or had) any of these issues can you post, so we can track and see how many of those are getting resolved when.

ID: June 7, 2006
Issue: Background check pending (Christian name, not common at all, and brother with same last name cleared)
Action taken to-date: Email to FBI, wrote to Senator/congressman, no response, Call to 1-800 number asked to wait 4 months.

Good luck!

Background check becomes missing "A file" !

Interesting development in my case. I called the 1-800 number and after working my way through finally was able to get a rep to open my file. He looked at it and said, "oh they are waiting for a A-file". As I mentioned above, at the end of interview I was told "background check pending", not missing A file. When I mentioned this to him, the rep says, yeah that too ... hmm

I dont know how much to trust the person, but a missing A-file may be good news versus a name check. I'm going to take an info pass to clarify what's going on.

(PS: I did have a different A number in my EAD)

No. But I did have a EAD from OPT days with a different A number. However the officer did not mention anything about this during my interview, but rather wrote "background check pending" ...
