Tourist visa to visit US for CSA exam

Hello,

I am a medical grad from India. I have already taken USMLE steps 1 and 2.

I need to visit the US in order to appear for the CSA examination. I am planning to apply for a tourist visa for this purpose.

Do I state this reason in the interview or do I just say that I am visiting my brother/uncle in US for a few months?

What would be the appropriate ties to prove that I'd return to India - job in India, property etc.?

Thanks

If there is a possibility that you can get a tourist visa, you would be better off telling them the truth.

Thanks!

I had a fear that taking the CSA exam would be immediately be misconstrued as immigration intent.

Would the officer understand that this is just one of the steps in the application process for international medical grads, and that a tourist visa is the only means to visit US for taking this exam.

Thanks again.

Tell the truth.

You are far more likely to get the visa if you can prove your motive- taking CSA does not show immigrant intent; a young, possibly unmarried doctor from India 'visiting' relatives can be construed 'likely' with immigrant intent.

The immigration officers are trained to detect inconsistencies. If u state your purpose of visit to visit family - they would anyway find out from you as a doctor if u have or do u plan to take any exams. Lying would be almost a sure way to be refused visa
