Tourist visa now and OCI later

Hi, I recently became a US citizen and I got my US passport. I need to make a 2 week trip to India to take care of my mom's health issues. It sounds like it will take 60 days to get an OCI for Chicago applicants. So can I apply for 6 month tourist visa now, and then come back to the US and apply for an OCI? Is this allowed?

Yes, you can get OCI later but you will still need the renunciation paperwork done before you can get a visit visa.
