Tourist Visa for distant Relative?

Greetings,
I’ve gone through the tourist visa process to US for my mother and mother-in-law.

My question, we have a scenario where we are thinking of inviting a distant relative to US for few months as a tourist.

a) I wanted to check, if there are any other steps that need to be pursued in this case?
b) Since this person is a distant relative, do we need show any proof?
c) Also, the relative is not sound financially and they live in village. Are there any other steps that we need to take to increase the chances of getting the visa?

Please share your experience or advice..

Thanks in advance!

Madhu,
Have a look at what the US Embassy in Islamabad says for B-2 visas. Read the part under "Q: What are the standards for getting a U.S. non-immigrant visa? How can I qualify?"

http://usembassy.state.gov/pakistan/niv_non_immigrant_visa_faqs.html

It clearly states that friends and family in the US (and outside) cannot help an applicant overcome 214(b). I have made repeated attempts on this forum to relay this point but for some odd reason there is a belief that somone in the US needs to "sponsor" a B-2 visa. That is not the case. Your distant relative needs to overcome 214(b) on his/her own. If that is done, a visa will be issued.
Good luck!!!
