Dear all,
Almost 2 years ago, I obtained a 10 year tourist visa as I applied to participate in a medical conference representing the clinic where I worked, then I was laid off right before the conference, but since I had the visa, I decided to visit my sister and I stayed with her for 6 months as she was going through a divorce. I returned to my home country (Peru) days before my visa expired. 3 months later I applied for a student visa at the consulate in Peru, and even though I had an I-20 from an american university, I had it rejected based on 'not enough financial resources'. 3 months later I applied again in the same consulate for the student visa, this time with more 'money in the account and financial resources', and they rejected it again based on 'not enough ties to the country'. This time however, the consulate officer also canceled my tourist visa when she noticed that I had stayed for 6 months during my last trip. Since I was serious about my studies, I took an offer from a university in Australia, where I am currently at (I have already studied 1 semester out of 4, which is the length of my program.
I plan to apply for a tourist visa on the US consulate in Australia to visit the USA this summer for 2 weeks only. I do not intend to stay, and I have more than plenty of reasons to come back to Australia, my graduate studies are expensive and I do not intend to abandon my investment. Any of you have any suggestions, or questions I should be prepared to answer. If there is anything for sure, it is to expect the unexpected from these consular officers. Please, tell me all possible questions I could face given this unique situation, be creative! THANKS !
