Kelvin,

I do not see any issue here. You are permanently residing in the US, right? You are not a GC holder but have a legal status.
What you need to do is just file the application. They are not going to ask for your GC, so just go with that.
Also try the link with BOA, I provided to you before. Again, I don't see any issue here. Good luck

I have already told you a number of times that as an asylee you are considered a permanent resident for banking purposes.

Alanpero and Gilbert,

That is precisely my point. The little kid just raves that he cannot get credit because of some rules about his status, despite our explanations. He does not understand or refuses to understand reality. What a poor kid.

Stop being adjectival, specially if adjectives used are bothering the other person. If you show respect to others, then others will show respect to you. Do not expect respect when you don't respect others.
We all should try to post messages that make a positive contribution to face our problems as asylees, and the fight between you guys doesn't not make any contribution. Don't you agree?
If you don't like what others are posting, just ignore them. If you want to fight why don't you guys try the private messages, though this feature is not intended for that purpose.
We all hope not to see more fights in this forum.
Best regards

The best bet is to get a secured account first, maintain a good payment history and then apply for something more ambitious. That is how kids assimiliate into the mainstream and become adults in USA. Everyone goes thru that. Babies cannot run until they know how to walk.

Good luck kid.

Kelvin,

You do not have to answer if you do not want to. Are you working full time and if so how long have you been working full time? I am trying to figure out the reason that you have a difficult time with your credit applications.

Best

i was shocked by that bankman's words:"unfortunately, base on our new policy, we can't issue u a regular credit card or even return ur secured credit card's deposit until the day u exactly become a PR, ur dad is pretty lucky 'cause he got his regular credit card before 911"
that's it

i went to Bank of America with my dad.
we were been told by a bankman, face to face.

i dont work, i'm a full time student
i even want to hide my actual status to apply for a student credit card...but dont know whether its possible to get approval

cool

If you are a full time student in a four-year college (especially with good grades), you will soon be flooded with more credit offers in the mail than you know how to handle. So would you just please relax and wait for the mail so to speak?

Kevin,

Go to a bank and open a secured credit card. That's a straightforward procedure. Bring some pieces of ID and a couple hundred dollars in cash or a personal check or a check card. That's it.

Ignore what the bank clerk told you that you would not get your deposit back. Because you will get your money back. You won't lose your money. This is America. If he insists on that. Ask him to show you that in paper, either a contract or a bank policy in paper. With this evidence you can find a lawyer and sue the bank for discrimination. Country of origin is a possible discrimination cause protected by the law. The problem is that you're not going to get this piece of evidence on paper.

Just be confident and be more knowledgeble. Don't get panaroid by false information. Remember in this country you can even chanllenge the US (uncle sam), let alone a bank clerk.

Dear TimZ, i think u misunderstood what i mean.
that clerk mean that i'll not get my non-deposit credit card(regular credit card) unitl i get my actual green card.

I see what you mean now.

Go ahead and get the secured credit card. Use it to build your credit history. Everything will be fine if you build a good credit history.

When your credit score gets better, all the credit card companies will want your business. They will pre approve you.

After one year ask the bank to graduate your secured credit card. Rest assured that they will graduate you if you have a good score then.

If they still refuse to graduate you, you have many options. You can simply cancel the credit card and get your deposit back if you don't want more trouble; or you can sue them if you want trouble.

sue doesnt work
my final purpose is to earn a regular credit card, not a deposit one
anyway, i'd like to try to apply a deposit credit card first.

Rest assured you don't need to sue on this matter. The bank will graduate you since they are not so stupid to get sued.
