its been 5 yrs and my eldery parents are eligible to apply for citizenship from tampa.
however, they need medical attn and since nothing is available on their current status (perm residents), they need to travel back home.

question is:
should they apply, do finger printing & then travel (as trip will take less than 6 months)

or should they travel and then come back and apply (trip hopefully will not be longer than 6 months..but in case it is).

ALSO, does anyone know what kind of benefits they can expect after citizenship...they have never been empolyed here.
thanks

Depending on their age, I guess they can get medicare/medicaid. Social security is out of the question as they never paid into it.

thanks a bundle!

Medicare allows permanent residents who don't have enough Social Security credits to buy into it after some point (I believe 5 years as an LPR), but I understand there are restrictions and specific enrollment periods, so they can't just sign up as soon as they feel sick and get treatment right away.

Have them get reentry permits, then go abroad for medical attention, then return and apply.
