To all who applied for Social Security Card Removing Conditions on Social Security

Hi Friends,
Yesterday I went to the Social Security Office to remove my condition “ VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORATION”. The officer asked for my Green card and entered some stuff in the computer and said “ I need your Old SS card and you will receive your new card in 2 weeks” (Good I made the copy of my card front and back). Now my questions are 1) Are they supposed to take the old card? I was under the impression I just destroy the card myself you know instead of trusting someone to shred the card 2) how long does it take for a new card to be mailed to me? As always thank you so much for your opinion and suggestions friends. Thank you.

Two weeks to get the SSN card in the mail.
1) If you told them you have the old card, they will take it. If you have lost the card, they will give a new one without any police complaint etc. Trust the SSA - they wiill DESTROY the CARD. They have all information on you - parents name, DOB, which city you were born, what visa you came on to this country etc. I was amazed at the clerk when she was able to reeel off all my information when I visted a SSA office. Trust them to do a good job. Be POSTIVE.
2) 2 weeks to get in mail

Yes, they will take your old card and shred it right there in front of you. (I changed my SS card three times already and they always asked for my old one)

Yes, they will take your old card and shred it right there in front of you. (I changed my SS card three times already and they always asked for my old one)

thats what i did too. the lady asked me to hold onto the one I have and destroy it as soon as I got the new one..

Me too....I still have my old SS card with my new SS card applied for to arrive 2 weeks. She told me to keep my SS card just in case a need for it arose in those 14 days and after that I should shred it myself.....

I got my SSA Card

Hi Friends,
Just wanted to tell you guys that I got my new SS Card without restriction in just 4 days. I am so impressed with SSA. WOW. Applied on Nov30th and got it on Dec 5th. Well finally my journey has ended with SSA and USCIS. OH NO…….. Journey for US Citizenship begins in couple of years I guess. Once again thank you so much for your opinion and suggestions. Thank you. I hope you guys the best with your cases. God bless us all.
