I am confused about one thing. You see here in Asia you do your O-Levels after grade 9, which makes it equal to the 10th grade. And having an O-Level diploma will not qualify you for the Diversity Visa. You need an A-Level certificate, which is 2 years more to O-Levels. But many people from Africa seem to be qualifying for the DV based on their O-Levels.

Just curious actually.

Because as any one from Britain can testify that their O-Level is not enough to enter college in the US, which is also the case here.

But anyway, can someone clarify?

In kenya where i come from the education system we have is as follows
1) Primary education --- 8 years of study
2) Secondary Education -- 4 years of study
3) University Education ----- depends on your course of study but minimum is
4 years of study
iI know people from here with secondary education who have been admitted/accepted to the US universities with no problem
other african countries i have no idea maybe someone can expound on this

There are also middle level colleges for those who do not qualify to universities
There are also National Polytechnics which offer diplomas and higher national diplomas
ópe this has shade some light on our kenyan education systems

Sorry, i still not have understood clearly as regards to A-Levels. This is nothing but, just me wanting to know the educational system of Africa.

In kenya we used to have a system of 7-4-2-3 that 7years in primary,4years in secondary(o-level),2years in high schoo9(A-level) and 3years in university but it was scrapped off around 1985 and introduced the canadian system of 8-4-4 i.e 8years in primary,4years in secondary(high school) and 4years in university

note high school is equivalent to A-level here though some opt to go for the british curricullum like the GCSE but mostly in private schools

Darkhorse,
Where I came from or during my schooling in Nigeria,it was 6-3-3-4 system.6 is for primary education,3 is for junior high school,3 again is for senior secondary school while 4is for Uni.Senior secondary school certificate is o' Level equivalent, and to achieve it means you have put in at least 12years into studies. My question is,how many years would you put in full time study to obtain A Levels in Asia for instance?

Darkhorse,
Your 10th grade plus 2years As Level is equal to 12years of studies. This means A Levels in Nepal is actually equivalent to O' Levels from Africa in terms of the same 12years used to accomplish each.
